About The Position

NSC Minerals is seeking an experienced and safety‑driven Rail Superintendent to oversee daily rail yard operations and ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of the site. This leadership role is responsible for supervising rail activities, supporting employees, coordinating maintenance needs, and ensuring all operational and safety documentation is completed accurately. The Rail Superintendent works closely with the Plant Manager and plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence, supporting employee development, and fostering a strong safety culture.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial environment with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that rail operations are being completed safely and efficiently.
  • Ensuring railcars are loaded and ready for release as required.
  • Ensuring that equipment involved in loading and moving railcars is in good working order.
  • Coordinating any equipment repairs with the Plant Manager.
  • Supervising rail work to ensure that safety procedures are being followed and that product is being loaded as required.
  • Working with the Rail & Saskatoon Packaging Plant Manager to ensure that maintenance is scheduled and completed or to ensure adequate rail cars are on site for loading schedule.
  • Liaising with Head Office Logistics regularly regarding loading schedules or issues as required.
  • Ensuring all safety paperwork is completed and distributed as required.
  • Maximizing space at the rail siding to ensure cars can be picked up or dropped off in a timely manner.
  • Requesting feedback from employees regarding rail operations and safety and relaying information to Plant Manager.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs or reduce risk/hazards and discussing with Plant Manager.
  • Conducting toolbox talks at the start of each shift.
  • Ensuring Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs) and permits are completed prior to commencing work.
  • Encouraging a culture that promotes a healthy and safe workplace.
  • Assisting Plant Manager with recruitment activities as required.
  • Providing training and re-training to rail employees regarding equipment, hazards, processes, procedures, etc. as required.
  • Listening to and acting on the safety concerns of employees.
  • Assisting with inspections and investigations in the event of an emergency or incident.
  • Ensuring yard and facilities are kept clean and in good condition including roadways, washroom, kitchen, locker room, exits, lighting, etc.
  • Completing equipment checklists, inspections and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) as required.
  • Reporting any equipment issues or malfunctions to the Rail & PP Manager or Plant Manager.
  • Participating in toolbox talks, safety meetings or investigations as required.
  • Completing safety and equipment training/retraining as required.
  • Using all required safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
