About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Radiology Technician at the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) in Fort Dix, New Jersey. The role involves performing routine radiologic procedures for the inmate population, managing radiographic images and reports, and ensuring the proper functioning of radiographic equipment. The technician will work with a diverse inmate population and must adhere to correctional environment protocols. Training will be provided for specific systems and procedures, including the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Graduate from an accredited school or program for a Radiological Technologist.
• Be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Be licensed in the state of New Jersey as a Radiologist.
• A minimum of three (3) years of Radiological Technologist experience.
• Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Possess knowledge of basic emergency situations that may occur during special radiographic procedures.
• Possess knowledge of various pathological abnormalities as demonstrated by radiographic imaging.
• Maintain all clinical competencies required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). This includes the general patient care procedure, CPR certification, Vital signs, Sterile and medical aseptic technique, Venipuncture, Care of patient medical equipment (Oxygen Tank, IV Tubing, etc.).

• Attire: Professional clothing while on duty (scrub uniforms are approved). Attire shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment. Contractor is prohibited from wearing khaki or green.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by the medical staff for the inmate population.
• Transmit, retrieve radiographic images and reports electronically, and scan reports into inmates' Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
• Receive training to retrieve radiographic consults from BEMR and schedule them to perform all radiographic procedures.
• Work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, racial, religious, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Evaluate radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs.
• Notify the radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam.
• Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions necessary to obtain a proper quality diagnostic exam.
• Receive patients and explain procedures to alleviate undue anxiety.
• Independently perform all radiographic imaging.
• Coordinate transfer of patient radiologic records to ensure continuity of care.
• Work with the Clinical Director to ensure monitoring and evaluation activities are completed.
• Act as liaison between radiologist and medic staff.
• Receive training and orientation and comply with correctional techniques as they pertain to medical services.
• Develop a working knowledge of the local medical protocols.
• Wear outer protective clothing and abide by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention universal precautions.
• Function in other duties commensurate with a Radiology Technician.
• Computerization and printing of the daily log.
• Computerization and printing of exam requisitions.
• Complete all X-ray studies ordered by the medical staff in a timely manner.
• Notify medical staff of orders approaching due date.
• Transmit x-rays to the radiologist for interpretation.
• Transcribe or scan results to BEMR for physician review.
• Possess the ability to identify significant findings that should be urgently reported to the Primary Care Provider Team.
• Assist with biennial FDA radiation survey and preparation for Program Review, American Correctional Association (ACA) certification, and Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).
• Perform Biannual quality assurance tests on shields, aprons, and gloves.
• Review dosimeter badge reports and maintain records.
• Maintain all clinical competencies required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• During periods of downtime, accept assignments within the scope of their knowledge, skills, and clinical abilities, including daily checks of medical equipment and supplies, quality assurance audits in BEMR, obtaining and recording vital signs, performing PPE and supply inventory, and scanning.
