Radiology Operational Lead
About The Position
This role is responsible for performing and teaching prescribed MRI examinations with a high level of attention to detail, demonstrating a strong understanding of pediatric anatomy, physiology, and developmental stages while following established protocols and safety standards. The position involves adhering to and teaching strict MRI safety guidelines, working closely with Radiologists to develop and operationalize scanning protocols, and communicating procedures clearly and compassionately to patients and families. The lead will prepare and position patients, work collaboratively with various healthcare teams, accurately document procedures in the EMR, and participate in ongoing education and training. Additionally, this role includes orienting and mentoring new staff and students, ensuring proper operation and quality assurance of MRI equipment, assisting with equipment issues, maintaining staff schedules, assisting with peer evaluation and image quality exercises, acting as chair or co-chair of the MRI safety committee, and acting in the Radiology Management absence as required.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered with ARRT in MRI (MR)
- Texas Medical Board licensure required
- MRSO certificate by ABMRS required within 12 months of hire

Responsibilities
- Perform and teach prescribed MRI examinations with a high level of attention to detail and demonstrate strong understanding of pediatric anatomy, physiology, and developmental stages while following established protocols and safety standards and without supervision.
- Adhere to and teach strict MRI safety guidelines, including screening patients, families, and staff for MRI contraindications or conditions.
- Work closely with Radiologists to develop and operationalize scanning protocols for both patients and research projects.
- Communicate procedures clearly and compassionately to patients and families to manage anxious or uncooperative pediatric patients with empathy and professionalism.
- Prepare and position patients ranging from neonates to young adults appropriately using patient/family-centered care to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal diagnostic outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with radiologists, nursing staff, child life specialists, and anesthesia teams to support safe and efficient imaging services.
- Accurately document procedures, patient histories, and imaging data in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participate in ongoing education, training, and competency assessments related to pediatric imaging and MRI technology.
- Orient and mentor new staff and work with students and mentors appropriately during student rotations.
- Ensure proper operation and routine quality assurance of MRI equipment.
- Assist with MRI equipment issues, troubleshooting, and placing service calls.
- Maintain staff schedules, daily assignments, and scheduling items.
- Assist with peer evaluation and image quality exercises including staff credentialing.
- Act as the chair or co-chair of the MRI safety committee.
- Act in the Radiology Management absence as required.
