The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. This role involves demonstrating skills and knowledge in the use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures, as well as technical proficiency in producing high-quality exams within the appropriate length of time for each procedure. The technologist will also demonstrate a working knowledge of PACS and review scans with Radiologists as needed, and confirm patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure. Additionally, the role requires administering sound patient care practices, communicating effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, explaining procedures to patients and families, and recognizing and responding to clinical or emergent problems. Maintaining equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition, performing quality control checks, practicing aseptic techniques, and completing ancillary tasks such as recording information on requisitions and inputting data into PACS/RADIANT are also key responsibilities.
