About The Position

Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for diagnosis of disease processes and delineation of both normal/abnormal anatomy as well as pathological conditions in areas of the human body. This role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skill levels in areas of expertise to ensure the production of high-quality images, safe operation of equipment, and adherence to quality control guidelines, state and federal regulations, and department policies/procedures. The technologist will utilize the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) and Community Wide Scheduling (CWS), and must demonstrate radiation and MRI safety and protection techniques. Excellent patient care is paramount, creating an environment where customers feel valued and respected, and maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School/GED Required.
  • Completion of an accredited Radiological program.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiographic Technology (ARRT) or Registry eligible.
  • New graduate or 1 year of general radiology experience required.
  • Ability to operate various x-ray equipment, fluoroscopic and auxiliary equipment to produce quality images.
  • Possesses Leadership qualities.
  • Able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as radiological field advances.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Utilizes two patient identifiers: name and date of birth.
  • Verifies the Meditech order with the physician's order.
  • Follows the PACS and Meditech workflow.
  • Reviews, approves and enters information in a timely and accurate manner after each patient.
  • Notifies the department and/or PACS manager of any errors or outstanding problems with completing patient data.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Refrains from discussing customers or personal matters within customers' hearing.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team.
  • Uses judgment to exercise delegated authority to work with others in a proactive way to troubleshoot operational and programmatic problems.
  • Resolves differences in a spirit of cooperation, creates solutions which benefit all parties, especially ancillary services’/department’s customers.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of diagnostic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for diagnosis of disease processes and delineation of both normal/abnormal anatomy as well as pathological conditions.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skill levels in areas of expertise (Portable, C-arm, Fluoroscopy, Digital Radiography (DR), Computed Radiography (CR)).
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment and accessories with proper warm-up exposure, daily QC and good reporting techniques.
  • Follows proper shutdown procedures for scanning and processing equipment.
  • Cleans equipment without damaging it.
  • Keeps assigned area clean and organized.
  • Adheres to Quality Control guidelines, State and Federal regulations, and department policies/procedures.
  • Utilizes the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) to create and import CDs, and notifies the department/PACS manager of any errors.
  • Completes Safety Reports and performs basic scheduling in Community Wide Scheduling (CWS).
  • Demonstrates Radiation and MRI Safety and Protection techniques (ALARA, Dosimetry, Shielding, Collimation, Magnetic field).
  • Performs correct exam on correct patient using two patient identifiers (name and date of birth) and verifies the Meditech order with the physician's order.
  • Follows the PACS and Meditech workflow, reviewing, approving, and entering information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Includes Patient Tracking Data (exam start/end times), Technologist's notes and name, Correct patient history, QA resolution, and Moving exams.
  • Consults with the radiologist on duty to assure correct scanning parameters when necessary (Trauma, Difficult and/or infrequent studies).
  • Provides technical knowledge and/or monitors the delivery of radiological services.
  • Works closely with the MD/PA to coordinate patient examinations with special circumstances.
  • Ensures that daily operations are performed in a timely and proficient manner.
  • Provides excellent patient care and creates an environment in which customers feel valued and respected.
