About The Position

The Bureau of Prisons Federal Prison Center-Alderson is seeking a full-time Radiologic Technologist for its Health Services Department. This role involves performing routine radiologic procedures for the inmate population, maintaining radiology equipment, and ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality. The technologist will work with digital X-ray equipment and perform various radiographic and mammographic procedures. This position requires adherence to specific attire guidelines appropriate for a correctional environment.

Requirements

  • Must have an unrestricted state license to practice in the state of West Virginia as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be a graduate from an accredited school or program for a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Radiological Technologist experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by medical staff for the inmate population.
  • Perform routine radiology and mammography services to Adults in Custody (AIC) as referred by BOP Health Services Staff.
  • Maintain the radiology and mammography equipment through required services performed by contracting services.
  • Independently perform all radiographic and mammographic procedures, including chest, bone, skull, spine, and knee exams.
  • Notify the Radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen during an exam.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of medical information for AIC and staff.
  • Provide assistance with medical staff duties such as scanning medical records, maintaining radiology badges, monitoring sanitation, and assisting in improving the Organization Plan.
  • Explain appropriate instructions to AICs undergoing radiology procedures.
  • Maintain mammography accreditation and related standards.
  • Evaluate radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs, and inform the HSA if needed.
  • Ensure inspections for defects of gloves, aprons, and shields are performed twice per year and signed off.
  • Transmit, retrieve X-ray images and reports electronically, and scan reports into the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions for quality diagnostic exams.
