About The Position

This role requires a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of radiographic methods to identify defects in castings. The technician will be responsible for reading films, marking castings for acceptance or rejection, and ensuring adherence to customer specifications. The position involves working independently and collaboratively with various departments, including engineering and shooters, to maintain quality standards. The technician must also maintain all necessary certifications and comply with safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Good vision/sight (must meet industry standards), depth perception, hearing, and hand-eye coordination, and dexterity.

  • Ability to perform repetitive activities.
  • Ability to sit in a low light room for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and wear all required personal protective equipment.

  • Willingness to be cross-trained within department classifications.
  • Ability to pass a preliminary aptitude test (70% or above).
  • Minimum of 3000 hours of on-the-job training specific to Wellman, or equivalent experience determined by Wellman.

Responsibilities

  • Complete formal training certification of a Level 1 Shooter and an additional 40 hours of training for a Level 2 Reader.
  • Pass a general, specific, and practical exam within the allotted time frame for new employees and recertify every five years.
  • Pass an annual eye exam demonstrating no color discrimination or acceptable acuity.
  • Obtain and maintain a State Radiation Safety card and all Level 1 Shooter and Level 2 required certifications.
  • Read film to identify defects on castings and mark them for acceptance or rejection.
  • Work independently while maintaining good communication between multiple departments, shooters, and engineering.
  • Follow and identify different parts and customer requirements by reading work instructions and communicating.
  • Use gauges and identify correct techniques used by the shooter, communicating any discrepancies to the supervisor and shooter.
  • Identify and discuss techniques used by the shooter and assist with correcting discrepancies.
  • Identify serial numbers and shooter identification on film to ensure the correct film is for the correct casting produced.
  • Read and record inspection results according to work instructions and the direction of the Responsible Level 3.
  • Recognize poor quality of the film and take necessary steps to correct it.
  • Maintain an understanding of the scope and limitations of the radiographic method.
  • Keep accurate records as determined by company and customer standards.
