Radiochemistry Supervisor
About The Position
This position oversees the Radiochemistry section within the Maine Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory. The role is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and assistance to staff, maintaining quality control/quality assurance measures, conducting necessary calibration of instrumentation, assisting in internal and external audits, and rectifying any deficiencies found. The position also involves overseeing daily operations, ensuring radiochemistry tests are completed efficiently and on schedule, becoming trained and competent in all testing methods to assist with analysis as needed, performing proficiency testing, ensuring data review with attention to quality control and accurate reporting, ensuring staff are properly trained, participating in annual internal audits, leading validations of new instruments and methods, complying with Quality System requirements, providing quality customer service, learning and assisting with LIMS improvements, maintaining an independent and impartial approach, prioritizing environmental analytical analyses, working with analysts regarding difficulties, obtaining accreditation, minimizing the need for subcontracting analyses, conducting staff meetings, and evaluating future planning needs.
Requirements
- A Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related laboratory science
- Four (4) years professional level experience in analytical chemistry.
- Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Radiochemistry Section.
- Ensure radiochemistry tests are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Become trained and competent in all testing methods to assist with analysis as needed.
- Perform proficiency testing as required.
- Ensure data review, including primary and secondary review of data packages, with particular attention on quality control and accurate reporting.
- Ensure staff are properly trained in each analysis.
- Participate in annual internal audits.
- Lead validations of new instruments and methods.
- Read, understand, and comply with all Quality System requirements, including Data Integrity, Ethics, and Safety Training.
- Provide quality customer service to clients, partners, co-workers, and the public.
- Learn and assist with LIMS improvements, as related to the Radio Chemistry section within HETL.
- Maintain an independent and impartial approach when examining samples and interpreting results.
- Prioritize environmental analytical analyses, work with analysts regarding difficulties, obtain accreditation, and minimize need for subcontracting analyses.
- Conduct staff meetings, as necessary, to discuss successes, issues, and opportunities.
- Evaluate future planning needs, both short-term and long-term.
