About The Position

LSSD-Electronics Section is integral to the operational effectiveness of the New York City Police Department, directly responsible for ensuring reliable and uninterrupted communication capabilities across all departmental functions. The Electronics Section is seeking candidates for the position of Radio Repair Mechanic who will be responsible for the following: - provide, maintain, and enhance all forms of police radio communication from portable hand devices to Vehicle-Integrated radio systems - installation, repair, and maintenance of portable and mobile radios - installation, repair, and maintenance of various critical low voltage systems across NYPD facilities - ensure the functionality and readiness of mobile command centers, equipping them with state of the art communication technology

Requirements

  • Permanent in the Civil Service title 'Radio Repair Mechanic' or have recently filed for the Radio Repair Mechanic exam, #6093
  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last 10 years as a radio repair mechanic, or as an electronic technician repairing electronic equipment
  • Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • For appointment to certain positions possession of a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator's License, with a radar endorsement, is required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least THREE years of experience as described in "1" above acquired within the last 10 years plus sufficient full-time training of a relevant nature, specializing in electronics, acquired in a trade school, technical school or vocational high school approved by a State's department of education or recognized accrediting organization, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade school, technical school or vocational high school.
