Radio Frequency Hardware Engineer - DoorDash Air

DoorDash•San Francisco, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

DoorDash Labs, an independent innovation hub within DoorDash, develops automation and robotics solutions for last-mile logistics. The team is seeking a Senior RF Engineer to develop mission-critical RF and electrical systems for unmanned platforms. The role spans the product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through production, and focuses on reliable RF design and validation for autonomous platforms. The engineer will design, optimize, and validate RF and mixed-signal PCBAs, mitigate interference, troubleshoot system-level desense, and work with wireless technologies including LTE, 5G NR, Wi-Fi, GPS/GNSS, and UWB. The role is based in San Francisco, California, and requires working in person five days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in RF engineering, applied electromagnetics, or wireless systems.
  • At least 6 years of hands-on experience designing and testing RF hardware for consumer-grade, mass-produced products.
  • Strong RF fundamentals and expertise in front-end design, desense analysis, and system-level optimization.
  • Experience with systems that include high-speed digital interfaces such as MIPI CSI/DSI, PCIe, DDR, and SDIO/eMMC.
  • Proficiency with RF test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Hands-on expertise in desense mitigation techniques, including shielding, grounding, and filtering, using simulation and empirical measurement data for root-cause analysis.
  • Excellent data analysis, report writing, and presentation skills, and an interest in working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of solutions spanning RF, mixed-signal, and mechanical domains.
  • Design RF hardware and wireless testbeds for system validation, and lead system-level design verification and documentation.
  • Provide expertise and mentorship to partner teams on EMI mitigation strategies and cross-functional debugging processes.
  • Characterize EMI from internal and external aggressors, trace root causes, and use EMC probes, shielding tests, grounding checks, and layout reviews.
  • Conduct laboratory and over-the-air testing of RF systems, including sensitivity and coexistence evaluations across LTE, 5G NR, Wi-Fi, and GNSS, and validate performance against industry standards.
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations using CAD tools such as CST, HFSS, and ADS to understand product behavior and inform design decisions.
  • Communicate technical challenges, gaps, and trade-offs to engineers and executives.
