A Radio Dispatcher I ensures that passengers and materials are transported in a timely manner by establishing routes, scheduling vehicles and dispatching drivers by means of a two-way base radio and the telephone. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, however positions in some agencies are required to work a rotating shift to provide 24-hour coverage, seven days per week. Work is performed in an office setting where the employee is not exposed to uncomfortable environmental or hazardous working conditions. Work requires moderate physical exertion.
