About The Position

The Radiation Safety Officer shall ensure that all radiation safety activities are being performed in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures in daily operations, training company personnel and, other applicable duties related to radiation safety and general office duties. This position will have primary responsibility for the site RSO duties for the Corpus Christi office for PROtect.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 40 hours of Radiation Safety training & hold a current IRRSP or State card is required.
  • 2,000 hrs of hands-on experience as a qualified radiographer in industrial radiographic operations is required.
  • Must be capable of passing the PROtect, LLC. in house Trustworthy & Reliable investigation.
  • Formal training in the establishment and maintenance of a radiation protection program is required. (Candidates without such training will be required to attend course of PROtect’s choosing within 6 months of assuming position.)
  • Inspection, maintenance, and source retrieval training is required. (Candidates without such training will be required to attend course of PROtect’s choosing within 6 months of assuming position.
  • 2,000 hrs of hands-on experience as a qualified radiographer in industrial radiographic operations.
  • RT Level II certification with minimum 2-years of field experience
  • Have good knowledge of the inner workings of the QSA Global 880 model exposure devices and associated equipment.
  • Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft WORD and EXCEL
  • Ability to comprehend verbal instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify shortcomings of candidates and explain/identify areas needed for improvement.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time. (Up to a week or more at a time)
  • Lifting: Raising objects up to 60lbs. from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  • Associates degree in NDT is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Radiation Safety Program training for new and current employees, as applicable.
  • Conduct regular field compliance audits to meet the requirements of PROtect’s Radiation Program for designated primary offices. Compliance audits are to ensure compliance with all regulatory, license and company procedural requirements pertaining to the possession (storage), transportation and use of industrial radiographic equipment. Additionally, audits shall include review of compliance with safety and quality standards established by PROtect.
  • Supervise and assist Site RSO’s within the defined region and other locations as periodically requested in conducting field compliance audits.
  • Assist the Corporate RSO, ensuring the operating & emergency and ALARA procedures conform to state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure that all radioactive material transport vehicles are compliant with all regulatory requirements and company procedures.
  • Identify and report regulatory violations and/or items of non-compliance to the Corporate RSO.
  • Assist the Corporate RSO in the reviewing and notification of exposure history to personnel on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Perform inspection & maintenance of cameras and associated equipment on a quarterly and as needed.
  • Respond to any incidents or accidents that may require source retrieval.
  • Perform source exchanges and maintain all associated documentation in compliance with PROtect’s policies and procedures.
  • Review, monitor and maintain records such as daily dosimetry, utilization reports and any other records maintained by radiographic personnel.
  • Perform calibration of personnel monitoring devices, survey instruments and maintain the records.
  • Perform radioactive material leak tests of the camera shielding material & the sources.
  • Verify that all applicable required postings and notices regarding the storage, transportation and use of industrial radiographic equipment are current and posted in a conspicuous location and have been completed as applicable.
  • Assist the Corporate RSO in the implementation of corrective actions, incident investigations, and root cause analysis of incidents as necessary.
  • Work with designated site RSO’s at offices within the defined region to ensure their programs are kept up to date.
  • Visit offices within the defined region to review, oversee and assist site RSO’s a minimum once a month.
  • Maintain inventory and tracking of radioactive material and all associated equipment.
  • Track & Create reciprocity notifications for the Corporate RSO to submit to the applicable regulatory agency.
  • Assist the Corporate RSO in the purchasing and receiving of RT equipment, materials, or supplies.
  • Assist the Corporate RSO with duties as assigned.
  • Serve as a secondary location auditor for quality related matters while conducting radiation safety audits. Conduct unannounced field quality audits on level II technicians.
  • Audit work for items or deficiencies that are not code compliant or defects that were not identified. If deficiencies are identified, discuss the findings with the Level II.
