About The Position

The Radiation Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the performance of radiological imaging equipment including but not limited to various radiographic, fluoroscopic and CT units with CR reader/monitor by use of noninvasive test equipment in order to assess image quality and patient radiation exposure/dose. This position has system-wide responsibility for performing diagnostic radiological physics quality control and regulatory compliance reporting. Prepares detailed and complex quality control reports, which are legal documents, for regulatory agencies and national accreditation organizations. Internal customers include internal department management, technologists, and project management staff. External customers include regulatory agencies and vendors.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Radiological Technician program and a minimum of three years radiological quality control technologist experience or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
  • Knowledge of current diagnostic x-ray equipment and related test equipment associated with radiological quality control activities.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State regulations related to radiological equipment safety.
  • Skilled in operating radiological physics testing equipment and tools.
  • Skilled in utilizing applicable computer technologies and software.
  • Understanding of the repair and maintenance of general low-risk medical equipment technology devices.
  • Knowledge of the application and use of PC’s and how it interfaces with medical equipment.
  • Understanding of the technical aspects of electronic equipment, its operation, repair and maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior RT certification.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates radiological imaging equipment including, but not limited to: radiation survey meter, Keithley x-ray QC service kit, RadCal x-ray measurement kit, digital KVP meter, various test phantoms, collimator tool and an electrical leakage meter. Assures adherence to applicable Federal and State regulations.
  • Evaluates image quality and equipment performance and inspects mechanical aspects of the x-ray equipment to identify potential areas of concern.
  • Collects technical data for estimating patient radiation exposure/dosage from clinical radiation procedures.
  • Prepares quality control reports which includes detailing discrepancies or problems identified. Informs appropriate internal staff when equipment requires immediate or future service.
  • Completes facility radiation level surveys and prepares survey reports for newly installed x-ray equipment to ensure the adequacy of structure radiation shielding.
  • Participates in special projects and activities such as new equipment acceptance testing, patient radiation dose measurement, and/or other applicable items as needed.
