About The Position

Under the general supervisor of the Director of Ambulatory Oncology, the Radiation Oncology Manager is responsible for the quality of care and experience of the patients. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: the daily operations of the radiation oncology program, which includes financial, clinical quality, workforce, and patient experience performance improvement objectives. Provides onsite leadership and guidance to the staff in the day to day performance of their job related responsibilities. Provides input regarding department budget and operations and participates on committees as assigned. Coordinates with the physician(s) to assist them with their individual needs to practice radiation oncology. Keeps abreast of new clinical pathways, technology and growth opportunities in radiation oncology and makes recommendations to the Medical and Administrative Directors for marketing and strategic growth. Responsible for the selection highly qualified employees. Prioritizes and plans for specialty resources, working with the oncology leadership team to meet financial goals. Responsible for assuring accurate appropriate charge capture and treatment documentation. Oversees care for patients in the specific modality by managing the daily schedule for maximum throughput and ensuring adequate staff are available for the shift. Serves as a specialty resource to patient, families, referring oncology practices, primary care, and other specialty clinics in regard to coordinating resources and continuum of care. Supports and helps cover Radiation Oncology and front office staff as needed. Accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to radiation oncology practice, which includes maintaining confidentiality. Supports leadership and staff to meet and exceed patient experience goals in the Radiation Oncology. Supports change and participates in the development, interpretation, implementation and evaluation of goals/objectives, and quality management activities within the department in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Plan. Partners with Leadership to serve as liaison for oncology personnel and medical staff within Palomar Health system. Collaborates with various internal departments and outside vendors to assure adequate resources and the proper coordination of safe, efficient patient care. Oversees and directly assists with review and assessment of referred patients to the department requiring acute medical attention and ensures full and proper authorization is in place to treat patients. Actively coordinates and participates in leadership processes to meet and exceed staff engagement measures, facility quality metrics, and district goals. Assists in preparing for and ensuring accreditation and regulatory compliance. Demonstrates effective communication skills, problems solving, and conflict resolution in the management of the program(s), keeping the appropriate people informed. Adheres to safety policies. Maintains departmental policies, guidelines and procedures. Collaboratively work with the internal management team of the cancer center and of the hospital to ensure the delivery of quality patient care. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and utilizes evidence based practices to develop programs, policies, procedures and standards of care assures mutual cooperation of the multidisciplinary team supporting the goals for the shared patient. Ability to think critically in planning, priority-setting, and decision-making while ensuring positive working systems exist to support the staff's ability to meet patient needs. Ability to speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Requirements

  • BSN or Master's Degree in a healthcare related field (to also include MBA)
  • 5 years related clinical oncology experience
  • 2 years of progressive leadership experience
  • American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider certification
  • Current CA RN License or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists AART(R) license
  • Ability to speak and read English at a level sufficient to perform essential functions
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment (calculator, fax, photocopier)
