UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring for a Manager, Radiation Oncology to support our UPMC Pinnacle network office located in Harrisburg, PA. This position will work a regular Full Time daylight schedule Monday through Friday supporting Radiation Oncology operations at our Pinnacle Hillman Cancer Center location. The Radiation Oncology Manager is responsible for the leadership and management of the Hillman Cancer Center Radiation Oncology office at Pinnacle. Responsibilities include the management of clinical operations, quality management, regulatory affairs, continuing education, and fiscal responsibilities. The Manager identifies opportunities to improve patient safety and participates in projects and programs designed to reduce errors, improve processes, and to create a mindfulness culture for patient safety. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of progressive management experience OR an associate's degree with 5-7 years of progressive management experience required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills necessary.
  • ARRT Registration in good standing or Board Eligibility within six months of hire preferred.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Management of clinical operations, quality management, regulatory affairs, continuing education, and fiscal responsibilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient safety and participate in projects and programs designed to reduce errors, improve processes, and to create a mindfulness culture for patient safety.
  • Assess learning needs of staff utilizing surveys, QA Program Results, advice from Radiation Oncologists, and new processes and procedures.
  • Implement or coordinate training programs to meet the needs of the staff.
  • Seek approval for Continuing Education Credits to enable the staff to earn required education credits.
  • Maintain CE records.
  • Coordinate the regulatory compliance activities and maintain continuous departmental readiness for inspections and surveys.
  • Act as a liaison to Radiation Safety Officer, medical physicists, medical director, and coordinate safety compliance program.
  • Act as a liaison to Biotronics regarding the maintenance of all equipment.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Compliance Department and provide periodic reporting on compliance monitoring activities.
  • Coordinate the operations of the Radiation Oncology Department(s).
  • Monitor operating statistics and patterns to identify trends and changes across sites as well as the external environment.
  • Influence and oversee chief therapists, nurses, and all other staff through positive leadership techniques.
  • Ensure adequate personnel coverage to meet volume demands and adjust schedules as necessary to ensure patient safety standards.
  • Develop/Implement/Administer network policies and procedures to standardize quality patient care at each site.
  • Understand and implement all Human Resource activity including, but not limited to, HR Policies, hospital and departmental competencies, job descriptions, performance reviews, corrective action, recruitment, retention, and employee orientation.
  • Manage fairly and consistently as evidenced by no substantiated employee complaints.
  • Produce high-quality work in a timely fashion to meet established deadlines.
  • Provide effective financial oversight of departmental cost center(s) by balancing expenses against budget.
  • Manage effectively through others by establishing predetermined goals and objectives.
  • Utilize techniques for inspecting results in a consistent and reportable manner.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Director of Radiation Oncology Operations and UPMC Cancer Centers Leadership staff, other site managers, HR Leadership, and all other staff in the operations of the radiation oncology department(s) utilizing a 'shared governance approach'.
  • Utilize effective communication techniques with customers, staff, management, and senior leadership in daily operations.
  • Prioritize patient safety.
  • Oversee the department QA program and establish meaningful, measurable QA programs to meet regulatory demands.
  • Oversee departmental CQI Activities.
  • Conduct CQI meetings, set goals and objectives for improvement, and measure results utilizing benchmarks/scorecard.
  • Supervise and oversee site budget, including operational and capital budgets in collaboration with the Medical Director.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, including profitability and volume metrics.
  • Implement appropriate changes to increase efficiencies, enhance revenue, and control expenses.
  • Maintain FTEs at budgeted levels or can justify increases/decreases based on site volumes.

  • Oversee billing and revenue capture initiatives working in collaboration with the site's Medical Director.
  • Oversee new construction, renovation projects, and business utilization in collaboration with the appropriate personnel including the UPMC Cancer Centers leadership team.
  • Assess existing needs and plan for new programs to meet the site's needs.
