About The Position

Moment Energy is seeking a highly capable and hands-on R&D Technologist to support the development of next-generation Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). In this role, you will play a key part in designing, building, and validating electrical prototypes and test systems that accelerate product development. Working closely with the Electrical Engineering team, you will contribute to the development of prototype hardware, experimental test setups, and validation processes. You will help bridge the gap between engineering design and practical implementation by translating engineering concepts into functional prototypes and reliable testing environments. This is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong problem-solver who enjoys both hands-on development and experimental testing in a fast-paced cleantech startup environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in electronics development, R&D prototyping, or advanced electronics technician roles.
  • Strong hands-on experience assembling, modifying, and troubleshooting electronic systems and PCBs.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and build electrical prototypes, test setups, and experimental hardware.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and engineering drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex electrical systems.
  • Experience operating electrical lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, and data acquisition tools.
  • Ability to document technical procedures, test results, and prototype builds clearly.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, iterative R&D environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BESS or lithium-ion battery applications.
  • Experience operating and maintaining power test equipment (e.g., power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, DMMs).
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build and integrate electrical prototypes, subsystems, and test fixtures for new BESS and electronics development.
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to translate design concepts into functional hardware prototypes.
  • Perform advanced PCB assembly, rework, and troubleshooting of prototype electronics.
  • Design, build, and validate custom electrical wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for prototype and testing systems.
  • Develop and execute electrical and functional test procedures for prototype hardware and subsystems.
  • Configure and operate lab test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and data acquisition systems.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test results to support engineering design decisions and product development.
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting electrical issues during development and testing.
  • Help design and improve lab test setups, fixtures, and experimental infrastructure.
  • Maintain organization, safety, and operational readiness of the R&D electrical lab.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including test procedures, assembly guides, and lab SOPs.
  • Support continuous improvement of prototyping and testing workflows.
  • Work cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers during product development cycles.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians during prototype builds and testing activities.
