R&D Synthetic Chemistry Technician

About The Position

The R&D team in Wilmington, Delaware, is part of Agilent’s Chemistries and Supplies Division and develops silica and polymeric particles for liquid chromatography. The R&D Synthetic Chemistry Technician supports the design and development of silica or polymeric beads and surfaces for liquid chromatography consumables. The role performs laboratory-scale synthesis and modification, characterizes materials, documents experimental work, follows safety requirements, and assists with transferring technology from the R&D laboratory to manufacturing. The technician works with local R&D and Manufacturing colleagues and the organization’s global R&D team.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science or associate degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Hands-on experience with organic and/or polymer synthesis, modification, functionalization, and application.
Ability to follow detailed operating procedures, document experimental work, and comply with required safety protocols.
Excellent teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with analytical characterization of particles, polymers, or materials.

Responsibilities

Support the design and development of silica or polymeric beads and polymeric surfaces for liquid chromatography consumables.
Perform laboratory-scale organic and/or polymer synthesis, modification, and functionalization.
Conduct laboratory work safely, follow EHS regulations, and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Document experimental work and maintain electronic laboratory notebooks with experimental details and results.
Perform analytical and materials characterization to understand and optimize synthetic processes.
Assist with transferring technology from the R&D laboratory to manufacturing, including moving from lab prototypes to reproducible and economical large-scale production.
Collaborate with the local R&D and Manufacturing teams and the global R&D team.
