R&D Synthetic Chemistry Technician
About The Position
The R&D Technician will join Agilent’s Chemistries and Supplies Division team in Wilmington, Delaware, which develops silica and polymeric particles for liquid chromatography. The role supports development of silica or polymeric beads and polymeric surfaces for liquid chromatography consumables through hands-on laboratory synthesis, modification, functionalization, and characterization. The technician will work safely under applicable EHS requirements, document experiments in electronic laboratory notebooks, and help transfer technology from the R&D laboratory to manufacturing. The position involves collaboration with local R&D and Manufacturing teams and the organization’s global R&D team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in Chemistry, Material Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with organic and/or polymer synthesis, modification, functionalization, and application.
- Familiarity with analytical characterization of particles, polymers, or materials.
- Ability to follow detailed operating procedures, document experimental work, and comply with required safety protocols.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of silica or polymeric beads and polymeric surfaces for liquid chromatography consumables.
- Perform lab-scale organic and/or polymer synthesis, modification, and functionalization.
- Conduct laboratory work in accordance with EHS regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Document experimental work and maintain electronic laboratory notebooks with experimental details and results.
- Perform analytical and materials characterization to understand and optimize synthetic processes.
- Assist with technology transfer from the R&D laboratory to manufacturing, including moving from lab prototypes to reproducible, economical large-scale production.
- Collaborate with local R&D and Manufacturing teams and the global R&D team.
