About The Position

Keysight is seeking a summer intern in Colorado Springs to assist in building AI tooling for their own engineers. This role offers the opportunity to apply engineering coursework and software development knowledge to real-world problems. The intern will be part of an Agile software development team, contributing to the design, implementation, and testing of internal tools that enhance the speed and quality of software development using AI. Projects will focus on areas such as MCP servers, agent workflows, AI integration into IDEs and CI/CD pipelines, prompt management, evaluation of AI-assisted development, and measuring the impact of these tools. This internship is designed as a pipeline for future full-time R&D Engineer positions.

Requirements

Pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or an equivalent degree, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028 (typically a rising senior)
Experience with software development, source control, and testing
Experience with object-oriented programming in a modern language such as Python, C++, C#, Rust, or Java, and the ability to write and debug non-trivial code independently
Exposure to AI or machine learning concepts through coursework, personal projects, or prior internship work, plus clear curiosity about how AI-powered software is actually built
Strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work on-site in Colorado Springs for the duration of the internship
Authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, or agentic frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or Semantic Kernel; coursework, hackathon, or side-project scale is fine
Experience building tools, scripts, or automation that other people ended up using
Exposure to DevOps or CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps
Experience building or consuming APIs and integrations between systems
Any exposure to AI coding assistants, IDE extensions, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code
Familiarity with Git source control
Familiarity with Atlassian tools - Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket
Experience building test automation or evaluation tooling of any kind
Interest in developer experience, platform engineering, or internal tooling as a career direction
Prior internship, co-op, research, or substantial open-source contribution experience
Interest in returning for a full-time role after graduation

Responsibilities

Designing, implementing, testing, and documenting software for a scoped project on the team's roadmap
Applying Generative AI and agentic techniques, including prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool and function calling, and multi-step reasoning, under the direction of your mentor
Building integrations between AI systems and the tools our engineers already use, including IDEs, source control, CI/CD, and issue tracking
Gathering requirements from the engineers who will use your tooling, and adjusting your design once they start using it
Writing automated tests and contributing to how we measure AI quality: test data sets, regression suites, and evaluation criteria for behavior that is not strictly deterministic
Measuring adoption and impact, so we can tell the difference between tooling that is interesting and tooling that is useful
Learning new development tools and processes, and working in the team's Git, code review, and CI/CD practices
Documenting and demonstrating your tooling to other engineering teams
Participating in team stand-ups, design reviews, and demos, and communicating progress and blockers clearly
Presenting your project and results to the team and to R&D leadership at the end of the internship
