About The Position

Keysight is seeking a talented R&D Software Engineer to join their Agile software team. This role focuses on creating common operating systems for Keysight’s instruments, with a specific emphasis on developing a highly secured Yocto system. The engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, and debugging of software features, products, and tooling for Linux system libraries and tools. This position is crucial for maintaining security and software standards across Keysight products and delivering features that enhance the company's technical leadership. The role involves full participation in the software lifecycle, from requirements capture to maintenance, and requires a hands-on technical leader who can mentor engineers, coordinate with internal groups, and resolve complex technical issues. Collaboration with various functional areas like Marketing, R&D, Technical Support, and Quality Assurance is expected to understand customer needs and provide comprehensive product solutions.

Requirements

BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electric Engineering, Math, Software Engineering or equivalent degree (BS and 3+ years of applicable Software Development experience; MS and 1+ years of applicable Software Development experience)
3+ years in software development on Linux platforms
Demonstrated track record of experience in object-oriented design and C++ programming skills/C++ standards
Quick learner capable of systems-level thinking and abstraction
Proficient in compilers (gcc and cross-compilation), debuggers (kgdb, gdb) and performance profilers
A keen problem solver and critical thinker, with a positive and team-oriented approach

Nice To Haves

Development experience with multiple operating systems (Windows or other)
Knowledge of Yocto and embedded Linux design
Kernel or driver development on any system
Working knowledge of Python and its family of tools

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and debug software features, products, and tooling for Linux system libraries and tools.
Create a highly secured Yocto system.
Participate in the full software lifecycle: requirements capture, research and investigation, product definition, design, implementation, test development, testing, and maintenance.
Act as a hands-on technical leader, mentoring other engineers.
Coordinate with Keysight internal groups.
Resolve complex technical issues.
Work closely with other functional areas (Marketing, R&D, Technical Support, Quality Assurance, Learning Products) and across Keysight business groups to understand customer design flows and provide whole-product solutions.
