About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is hiring an R&D Radiation Protection Training Program Lead in the Radiation Protection Functional Area (RPFA), within the Environment, Safety and Health Directorate. The role independently plans and executes research and development supporting the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of radiation protection training and qualification programs. These include the Radiation Control Technician (RCT) and Health Physicist (HP) qualification programs, as well as institutional Radiological Worker, Radiation Generating Device Custodian, and Sealed Radioactive Source Custodian training programs. The position is subject to DOE Order 426.2 and will be filled at either the SES.3 or SES.4 level depending on experience. A hybrid schedule may be available after a probationary period, subject to team and organizational needs. The lead sets technical strategy and direction for the program, develops and revises health physics training materials and lesson plans, resolves complex training and qualification problems, and guides program initiatives and qualification and requalification objectives. The position is the primary technical contact for RCT/HP qualification and training matters and works with internal colleagues, management, DOE representatives, and training committees. Responsibilities also include leading audits, inspections, and site verifications. At the SES.4 level, the role additionally directs R&D tasks and program initiatives, sets broad program vision and strategy, develops solutions to highly complex problems, and provides cross-directorate support to Laboratory-wide training organizations and the Training & Qualification Functional Area Manager. The position may help attract and retain training programs, funding, and staff, and may serve as an organizational spokesperson on RCT/HP qualification matters.
