About The Position

Requirements

Working towards a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or related field.
Ability to work safely and independently with prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
Excellent microbiology and synthetic biology skills (sterile technique, microbial cultivation, familiarity with common molecular biology tools).
Basic laboratory quantitative and digital skills for assay design and analyses of results.
Available to work a 12-week internship from May/early June to August in the summer of 2027, working daily in office at Mason Business and Innovation Center.

Nice To Haves

Experience developing automated workflows for molecular biology.
Hands-on experience and independent proficiency in analytical chemistry and bioinformatics.

Responsibilities

Mine literature for genetic pathways and biosensors for chemical classes of interest.
Leverage genetic engineering tools and analytical techniques to enable, improve, and quantify biomolecule production and/or biosensor function.
Independently develop, execute, and analyze experiments to characterize and optimize engineered microbial systems.
Automation of experiments to deliver outputs more quickly and reliably.
