About The Position

Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a Geosyntec Company, is seeking a motivated Research and Development Engineer to contribute to their mission supporting work at Sandia National Labs in Livermore, California. Geosyntec is an international engineering and consulting firm known for its technical leadership. The Telemetry (TM) team at the National Laboratories in Livermore, CA is seeking an R&D Mechanical Engineer to join their dynamic team, responsible for the design, development, testing, and qualification of multiple telemetry products. This role involves contributing to mechanical design, conducting environmental testing, verifying requirements, fixture development, documentation, hardware assembly, and managing fabrication processes for highly integrated electro-mechanical designs that must operate in severe environments. The position requires collaboration with a multi-faceted engineering team and interaction with various national laboratories, government agencies, and the DoD.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other relevant Engineering field.
  • At least 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Mechanical Testing (Shock, Vibration, Temperature, Pressure, Humidity) and data analysis.
  • Strong design skills in CAD.
  • GD&T knowledge.
  • Experience designing for multiple manufacturing processes including machined aluminum, sheet metal and 3D printing (FDM).
  • Candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance.
  • This position requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate level degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience within the NNSA complex.
  • GD&T ANSI Y14.5 experience.
  • Experience with nuclear weapons and/or test assembly design principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with designing, testing, or fabricating aerospace hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience with testing in vibration, shock, thermal, vacuum, and centrifuge.
  • CREO skills.
  • Active DOE Q Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document system needs and requirements for Telemetry hardware.
  • Work with a cross-functional team to establish long-term visions and short-term priorities for the mechanical engineering team.
  • Utilize critical thinking to troubleshoot both mechanical and electromechanical issues, providing solutions within programmatic constraints.
  • Engage in hands-on work with the Telemetry product through fabrication and testing activities.
  • Use CREO and PDMLink to design and model the Telemetry product.
  • Perform and analyze fine element analysis (FEA) simulations for stress, strain, modal and thermal environments.
  • Work with vendors and Sandia buyers to procure development parts.
  • Work with MCAD and the product definition team to create and authorize product drawings.
