Position Overview The R&D Mechanical Engineer I, Systems will provide mechanical engineering support for R&D generator projects. With guidance, the R&D Mechanical Engineer I, Systems will develop parts, tooling, and fixtures, and will support build and test activities across on-market, incubator, and next-generation systems. The role will also support Design Verification and Validation activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Familiarity with GMP, GDP, and good laboratory practices
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with flexibility to adapt to changing requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design, assemble, and test products as well as supporting tooling and fixtures.
  • Fabricate fixtures and tooling for product builds and testing (e.g., mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic).
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for concepts, designs, drawings, fixtures, tooling, test methods, processes, and build instructions.
  • Perform product and process characterization for products, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Participate in requirements development and testing activities.
  • Assist with transferring products from R&D to manufacturing.
  • Support equipment selection, verification, installation, and qualification in collaboration with relevant teams (e.g., EH&S, Facilities).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot lab instruments and equipment.
  • Train technicians, assemblers, and engineers on procedures and product assembly.
  • Present designs, data, and findings during cross-functional reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
