Requirements

  • Minimum of a 4-year college degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or related science field with at least 1-year biological or chemical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to work smoothly in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment/adapt to changing procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs, and use ladders to work from heights.
  • Night shift, holidays and/or weekends may be required on a limited basis

Responsibilities

  • Complete 15 liter (L) fed-batch fermentation experiments and collect data
  • Provide molecular or microbiological diagnostic testing for issues related to production strain performance, foreign bacterial growth in fermenters or downstream processes, and bacteriophage testing
  • Operate laboratory analytical equipment for the R&D laboratory, including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, carbohydrate analyzers, balances and meters.
  • Hands-on support for the manufacture and validation of working and master cell banks used in manufacture of 1,3-propanediol.
  • Obtain and analyze field samples from the manufacturing process to assist troubleshooting and improvement initiatives.
  • Complete lab-scale trials of downstream processes including ion exchange and filtration
