About The Position

This is a contract role for an R&D Engineer Human Factors/R&D Principle Human Factors Engineer located in Milpitas, CA. The position is for a senior-level Human Factors Engineer with 8-10+ years of experience, supporting diabetes care product development. The role involves leading human-factors strategy, usability research, and HF deliverables across the hardware-software product lifecycle. The engineer will apply user-centered design principles, conduct usability testing, and synthesize data into actionable insights. Collaboration with cross-functional teams including R&D, Design, Product Management, Regulatory, and Quality is essential to ensure solutions meet user needs and regulatory standards. The position requires strong communication skills, executive presence, and an autonomous work style. The role is research-driven, focusing on translating data into insights that influence design and product decisions. The candidate will advocate for user needs throughout development and must have regulated industry experience.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years Human Factors/Usability Engineering (medical device preferred; regulated industry required).
  • User-centered design, usability evaluation, risk/safety analysis experience.
  • Hardware, software, or service product experience (at least one required; combination ideal).
  • Strong HF research background—this is not a design role but a research-driven role.
  • Ability to translate data into insights that influence design and product decisions.
  • Experience working across product development cycles.
  • Strong written communication; ability to synthesize findings clearly.
  • Executive presence for customer/vendor interactions.
  • Regulated industry experience (medical device ideal; health tech/consumer health acceptable).
  • Reliable, autonomous work ethic.
  • Human factors research methodologies
  • Human performance analysis (cognitive, perceptual, motor principles)
  • Data interpretation and influence on cross-functional teams
