About The Position

MANTECH is seeking a motivated, career- and customer-oriented Quantum Research Scientist for a future opportunity. This is a fully remote role focused on advancing quantum information science and optical quantum systems. The position applies expertise in continuous-variable photonics and theoretical algorithm discovery to translate complex physical phenomena into experimental prototypes and publishable research. The role prioritizes experimental physics integration within photonics modalities over alternative architectures and involves collaboration with academic partners and cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience working in quantum computing or quantum information science.
  • Demonstrated foundational research experience in theoretical algorithm discovery, novel qubit modalities, quantum error-correction schemes, or experimental quantum physics.
  • Demonstrated experience translating complex mathematical models and physical phenomena into experimental prototypes or technical specifications.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% within the Continental U.S.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Quantum Physics, Atomic Physics, Condensed Matter, or Computer Science with a Quantum Information Science focus.
  • A robust peer-review record, industry recognition, patents, or publications in top-tier journals such as Nature, PRX, or IEEE.
  • Professional certifications such as IBM Certified Quantum Computation using Qiskit Developer, MIT xPro Quantum Computing Fundamentals, or Advanced HPC/GPU Acceleration (e.g., NVIDIA CUDA).
  • Experience applying machine learning and AI algorithms to quantum control or complex physical simulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct foundational and applied research to advance quantum information science, with a specialized focus on continuous-variable photonic quantum computing.
  • Lead theoretical algorithm discovery, establish novel qubit modalities, and engineer advanced error-correction schemes tailored for optical and photonic quantum systems.
  • Prioritize experimental physics integration within photonics modalities over alternative architectures.
  • Translate complex mathematical models and quantum physical phenomena into experimental prototypes, technical specifications, and publishable findings.
  • Collaborate with academic partners and cross-functional engineering teams to map cross-platform control policies to alternative modalities.
  • Document research progress and disseminate findings through technical papers, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
