Quantity Surveyor

Pathfinder L L C•Houston, TX
•$65,000 - $125,000

About The Position

The Quantity Surveyor independently measures, verifies, reconciles, and validates construction quantities on data center projects to support accurate cost control, contractor payment evaluation, and change management. Projects involve significant civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and infrastructure work, evolving designs, and multiple contractors. The role validates estimated quantities, changes, installed work, and amounts charged to the project. The position goes beyond material takeoffs by connecting engineering quantities with construction execution, contractor payments, and project cost exposure. It requires technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to independently reconcile information. The role is hands-on and site-engaged in a fast-paced construction program with aggressive schedules, rapidly evolving priorities, and multiple contractors working concurrently.

Requirements

  • Strong QS or construction quantity management experience on large-scale industrial, power generation, data center, infrastructure, or EPC projects.
  • Proven quantity takeoff and measurement capability.
  • Knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical construction quantities.
  • Experience with bills of quantities (BOQs) and contractor quantity validation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Strong Excel skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-discipline construction quantity experience.
  • Strong field construction exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantity takeoffs from engineering drawings, specifications, 3D models, and construction documentation.
  • Develop, review, validate, and reconcile bills of quantities, material takeoffs, and contractor quantity submissions.
  • Verify installed quantities against drawings, field measurements, contractor progress reports, and approved scope.
  • Review contractor payment applications, progress claims, and quantity-based invoices to confirm that claimed quantities and progress are reasonable and supported.
  • Evaluate quantity growth from design changes, scope modifications, and field conditions, distinguishing original-scope quantities from genuine growth.
  • Support estimators and cost engineers by validating quantities, identifying scope gaps, and reconciling estimates, revised designs, and construction quantities.
  • Maintain quantity registers, measurement sheets, reconciliation reports, and auditable records of quantity changes.
  • Verify field progress, installation quantities, and reported completion directly with construction teams.
  • Challenge contractor quantity submissions where warranted.
