About The Position

The Quality Weld Inspector supports defense manufacturing operations by performing detailed visual and dimensional inspections of formed, fabricated, welded, coated, and assembled components. The role ensures compliance with engineering drawings, contract requirements, and applicable defense and quality standards. It emphasizes visual inspection, verification of weld presence and workmanship, and inspection of surface finishes after powder coating and other finishing processes. Accuracy, consistency, and adherence to documented requirements are essential. The position also involves documenting and segregating nonconforming material, maintaining inspection records and objective evidence, supporting first article and source inspections, and communicating findings to production, quality, and engineering personnel. The inspector must follow quality-system, security, export-control, and document-control procedures. Work takes place in a manufacturing environment with welding, coating, and fabrication processes, and requires PPE. The role is subject to ITAR requirements; U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or U.S. Person status is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing visual weld inspection for presence and workmanship; CWI certification is not required.
  • Experience inspecting powder-coated or painted parts for functional and cosmetic quality.
  • Proficiency with hand gages and basic dimensional inspection techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to make objective, repeatable accept/reject decisions.
  • Ability to accurately complete inspection records and quality documentation.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive inspection tasks.
  • Ability to bend and reach frequently and handle parts.
  • Ability to lift up to 35–50 lbs. as required.
  • Ability to comply with facility security and export-control requirements.
  • U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or U.S. Person status required because the role is subject to ITAR requirements.
  • Use required PPE in the manufacturing environment.

  • Experience working under military specifications, ASTM standards, or customer-specific requirements.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and internal audit expectations.
  • Experience supporting customer or government source inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving, in-process, and finished-goods inspections using approved drawings, travelers, inspection plans, and contract flow-down requirements.
  • Visually inspect fabricated and welded components for weld presence, configuration, completeness, and workmanship.
  • Inspect welds for visible defects, including cracks, undercut, porosity, overlap, incomplete fusion, and other surface discontinuities, according to applicable standards.
  • Inspect powder-coated and painted parts for coverage, uniformity, adhesion indicators, and cosmetic acceptance criteria under customer, military, and internal specifications.
  • Use hand gages and basic inspection equipment to verify dimensional characteristics.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, basic GD&T, weld symbols, notes, and applicable specifications.
  • Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material and initiate nonconformance reports in accordance with quality-system procedures.
  • Record inspection results accurately and maintain objective evidence for audit readiness and customer review.
  • Communicate inspection findings to production, quality, and engineering personnel to support corrective action and defect prevention.
  • Support first article inspections and source inspection activities as required.
  • Adhere to quality-system requirements, including ISO 9001, and applicable defense contract requirements, including DFARS flow-downs as applicable.
