About The Position

The Quality Technician — Assembly is responsible for executing final electrical and mechanical testing and inspection on completed switchgear, power distribution, and related assemblies prior to shipment. This role is the last line of quality verification at Assembly, ensuring all units pass functional, electrical safety, and workmanship requirements before release. The Quality Technician operates and documents results for hi-pot, insulation resistance, breaker trip, and control wiring tests and executes final visual and mechanical inspections. Supports the QC Inspector with in-process inspection activities and nonconformance documentation as workload allows.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or quality inspection environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Experience using measurement and inspection tools.
  • Basic math and measurement skills and ability to record measured values accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly and professionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
  • Familiarity with inspection documentation, nonconformance reports, or corrective actions.
  • Prior experience in a regulated or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as hi-pot testers, insulation resistance meters (Megger), and multimeters.
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory: voltage, current, resistance, continuity, and insulation resistance.
  • UL 891 certification or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Execute final electrical testing per applicable test procedures and checklists, including: Hi-pot (dielectric withstand) testing at specified test voltages; verify no flashover or excessive leakage current, Insulation resistance testing, Breaker trip and ground fault testing, Current transformer turns ratio testing per specified acceptance criteria, Control wiring point-to-point continuity verification per schematic, Functional testing of control power, breaker components, and associated control circuits per applicable procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose test failures, including identifying root causes of electrical faults, wiring errors, or component issues, and escalate findings to the QC Manager.
  • Operate, maintain, and verify calibration status of test equipment; record calibration dates on each test report.
  • Record all test results, measured values, and pass/fail determinations accurately on the test report; upload completed documentation per document control procedures.
  • Perform visual and mechanical inspection checks per applicable QC procedures, including hardware installation and torque, phase labeling, control wiring anchorage, component and lug verification against BOM, and breaker function checks.
  • Document inspection results and note any discrepancies for disposition.
  • Identify, document, and initiate NCRs when nonconformances are discovered during final testing; notify the QC Manager.
  • Support the QC Inspector with general in-process inspection activities at Assembly as workload allows, including containment, rework verification, and disposition support as directed by the QC Manager.
  • Maintain accurate test records and checklists in accordance with QMS procedures and document control requirements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Provide feedback on recurring defects or process concerns.
