About The Position

The Quality Systems Manufacturing Engineer develops and launches automated measurement systems that support dimensional quality of body assemblies and complete vehicles. Working within centralized manufacturing engineering and transitioning to assembly plant or metal center operations, this role leads cross-functional development from concept through production validation. The engineer partners with Body Quality, BIW/GA, Controls, Robotics, Conveyance, Vehicle Systems, suppliers, and launch teams to deliver capable, integrated systems on program timing. This position requires significant ownership, initiative, and independent judgment in establishing robust measurement and dimensional control processes at launch and in production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Body Manufacturing or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience developing automated systems in a Body Shop, with a thorough understanding of processing, design, construction, integration, and launch requirements.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with suppliers and integrators to ensure timely delivery of equipment and systems.
  • Expertise in body manufacturing and assembly processes, with experience in dimensional quality and/or measurement systems.
  • General knowledge of statistics and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • High analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage diverse assignments concurrently.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to lead, motivate, facilitate, and instruct others cross-functionally.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and exercise sound independent judgment in a plant and manufacturing setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with inspection systems using moving and fixed cameras.
  • Body shop launch and assembly plant experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting tooling issues.
  • Experience with dimensional process control.
  • Proficiency with GOM software.
  • Knowledge of Teamcenter Visualization and Mockup.
  • Manufacturing processing and/or launch experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of automated body assembly and vehicle measurement systems, including equipment, tooling, process sequence and flow, facilities, controls integration, installation, and dimensional validation.
  • Partner with the ME Body Quality Team, BIW/GA Manufacturing Engineers, Commodity Integration Sources, Vehicle Systems Engineers, Launch Execution Teams, and Plant Dimensional personnel to deliver measurement solutions.
  • Develop detailed zone processes, conversion timing, and cost estimates for new and existing programs while ensuring deliverables meet program timing.
  • Develop Statements of Requirements (SORs) for sourced measurement, tooling, and automation equipment systems and manage suppliers and integrators through delivery.
  • Define dimensional measurement strategies with VDQM, Body and GA Quality Leads, and Plant Dimensional personnel.
  • Manage system development through concept, processing, tool design, construction, integration, installation, and dimensional validation in an assembly plant or metal center.
  • Deliver a tuned-in body in accordance with Manufacturing Validation requirements, including MV-1 and PED114, and incorporate lessons learned and continuous improvements into standards, procedures, processes, and tool designs.
