About The Position

The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) is a dairy farmer-owned cooperative and dairy processor founded in 1916. Superior Dairy, MMPA's wholly owned subsidiary, processes and bottles member milk. Founded in 1922, Superior Dairy delivers trusted dairy products across 44 states. This role is responsible for the efficacy of Quality systems (SQF, FSMA) and the application of continuous improvement programs. It ensures compliance with quality policies and government regulations through programs like HACCP and prerequisite programs (sanitation, pest control), guaranteeing the food safety and quality of all products. The position leads audits, completes audit reports, and manages communication between the Middlebury Plant and Association Headquarters.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or Food Science required.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience preferred.
  • HACCP and PCQI certified preferred, but not required.
  • SQF Practitioner preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance and audit readiness by working with the plant leadership team to implement all quality programs and systems.
  • Manage the plant's internal auditing program, conducting GMP and sanitation audits of operations and warehouse areas to ensure Food Safety and Quality Systems meet or exceed internal, 2nd, and 3rd party audit requirements.
  • Complete audit reports, track and trend data.
  • Lead the Internal Quality Management Review process with the plant's staff.
  • Conduct monthly quality management system reviews with the plant leadership team.
  • Lead the plant's quality Continuous Improvement efforts for quality KPIs (e.g., consumer complaint reduction, hold reduction).
  • Maintain appropriate documentation to support compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Act as SQF Coordinator for the Plant.
  • Own the plant's Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA) process and track root cause analysis.
  • Define best lab practices and provide guidance and adherence to quality policies.
  • Manage the plant laboratory, including analysis and interpretation of results.
  • Develop plant procedures to comply with MMPA’s Quality Management System and associated policies.
  • Develop, adapt, and improve quality programs and procedures for overall plant production activities, including the application of Quality Procedures changes.
  • Manage Food Safety Documents, SOPs, Food safety and HACCP plans, and other regulatory documentation.
  • Manage quality training for all plant personnel.
  • Ensure standard work through the development of work documentation and training to standards.
  • Participate in problem-solving and serve as a technical resource for Quality initiatives.
  • Direct management of Lab Staff.
  • Communicate ideas and technical information in an easily understandable way.
  • Assess risk and communicate risk appropriately and timely.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
