About The Position

This role is for a Quality Level III NDT Engineer specializing in Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI). The engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining MPI and FPI procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and serving as the Level 3 authority for NDT personnel certification. The position involves providing technical guidance, evaluating inspection methods, conducting audits, and interfacing with customers and regulatory agencies. The role also includes performing MPI and FPI on manufactured parts, identifying and evaluating indications, and documenting inspection results. The engineer will also be responsible for verifying equipment functionality, interpreting blueprints, and collaborating with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Understanding manufacturing practices
  • Basic understanding of geometric dimensioning, tolerancing, and blueprint interpretation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers
  • Strong reading skills and visual comprehension
  • Familiarity with blueprints and schematics
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to prioritize workloads

Responsibilities

  • Develop, approve, and maintain MPI and FPI procedures, techniques, and work instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as NAS 410, ASTM, ASME, customer specifications, and aerospace or industrial regulations.
  • Serve as the designated Level 3 authority for NDT personnel certification, training, examinations, and qualification programs.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to Level 1 and Level 2 inspectors.
  • Evaluate inspection methods, equipment, materials, and process controls to improve detection capability and efficiency.
  • Conduct audits, process assessments, and internal compliance reviews.
  • Review and disposition inspection results, nonconformances, and quality concerns.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action investigations related to NDT findings.
  • Interface with customers, regulatory agencies, and third-party auditors on NDT matters.
  • Maintain NDT records, certifications, and documentation required for compliance and traceability.
  • Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) on manufactured parts according to specifications, drawings, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Perform Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) on manufactured parts according to specifications, drawings, customer requirements, and applicable standards.
  • Identify and evaluate indications such as cracks, seams, laps, inclusions, and other material discontinuities.
  • Determine whether an indication is acceptable or rejectable based on the applicable specification.
  • Document inspection results and maintain required quality/NDT records and traceability.
  • Verify inspection equipment is functioning properly and perform, and document all required system performance checks in accordance with applicable procedures and standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and inspection criteria.
  • Work with Quality, Engineering, and Production when nonconforming material is discovered.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
