About The Position

The Quality Leader is responsible for leading all elements of manufacturing quality in their assigned area within the Ft. Worth Mining plant (TXO). The Quality Leader will lead a team of Quality Technical Advisors and other resources, drive resolution of quality problems, ensure compliance with Quality Management System procedures, and lead continuous improvement projects. In short, the Quality Leader will ensure and improve the overall quality of processes and products manufactured in their assigned area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of manufacturing experience)
  • Demonstrated work experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Services, minimum 3 years with increasing responsibility
  • Strong customer focus, able to relay and operationalize a genuine sense of urgency
  • Experience directly leading salaried, hourly, and other resources
  • Ability to influence others and lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate issues effectively at all levels
  • Demonstrated hands-on technical problem-solving experience
  • Experience with welding and machining processes, including ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Strong computer and data analysis skills, including Excel
  • Experience with Reliance, MES/Proficy and other Wabtec supply chain quality and operational data sources
  • Knowledge of ISO/AAR standards, quality procedures, and audit techniques; certified auditor
  • Experience with PPAP or similar part qualification processes
  • Statistically literate and familiar with Six Sigma/LEAN concepts and tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quality Technical Advisors (QTAs) and other resources including LEAD Program members, STEP program members and Interns.
  • Lead root cause investigations of quality issues and containments of quality escapes; drive responsiveness and keep all stakeholders informed on progress and resolution.
  • Provide leadership as the quality interface with Supply Chain, Engineering, Services, and other functions.
  • Define, implement, and lead quality processes and initiatives to meet customer quality expectations, internal quality expectations, and financial and contractual commitments.
  • Own process compliance: understand applicable Quality Management System documents, perform quality audits to ensure consistent adherence to procedures and processes, and drive CARs and improvement plans to address nonconformances.
  • Define, monitor, report, and improve quality metrics (BIS, AIS, JUHIN, DPU, NCMRs, CARs, Audits, Gage Calibration, Manufacturing Losses, etc.).
  • Lead quality culture improvement inside own area and across areas.
  • Work with the Director of Manufacturing Quality and other quality resources to promote a customer-focused “one team” approach to quality.
  • Interact with customers for quality concerns, on-site inspections, and plant visits/tours.
  • Ensure launch readiness for all new product and process launches; lead Manufacturing PPAPs and FAIs for significant process changes.
  • Continuously develop product and process knowledge, become a product and process expert.
  • Work closely with the Director of Manufacturing Quality to define and expand the Quality Leader role to further increase impact and effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
