About The Position

The Quality & Food Safety Specialist will fully support and proactively participate in safety programs, demonstrating safety leadership and promoting accountability within the QC Laboratory. This role ensures laboratory operations are conducted safely, meeting all company health, safety, and environmental requirements. The specialist is responsible for ensuring technicians are adequately trained, laboratory equipment is calibrated and maintained, and shelf life studies are conducted. They will also create/update SOPs, manage lab supplies and purchase orders, and handle shelf life extension and product information update forms. The role involves sampling and testing raw materials, troubleshooting production errors, and serving as a backup for other laboratory technicians. Additionally, the specialist will assist with investigations and corrective actions, participate in the HACCP Team, conduct GMP and BRC audits, support the Quality Manager in customer and regulatory audits, and participate in Continuous Improvement Teams. Coordination with external laboratories and management of the environmental swabbing program are also key responsibilities, along with other assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Fully support and proactively participate in safety programs and demonstrate safety leadership by their own behaviors, promoting accountability within the QC Laboratory
  • Ensure laboratory operation are conducted safely, meeting all company health, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Ensure that technicians working within Quality Team are adequately trained in the duties they undertake
  • Ensure that all laboratory equipment is correctly calibrated and maintained according to requirements
  • Conduct shelf life studies where appropriate
  • Create and/or update laboratory SOPs as needed
  • Order all lab supplies and ensure inventory is kept at appropriate levels (to include generation and receiving of Purchase Orders)
  • Generate and complete Shelf Life Extension Authorization Forms and Product Information Update Forms
  • Ensure all raw materials requiring sampling and testing are completed per requirements
  • Ability to troubleshoot formula/production errors along side production when product parameters do not meet specification
  • Will serve as the primary back up upon absence of the other Laboratory Technicians
  • Assist with investigations and implementing corrective actions from complaints, audits and internal preventative actions to promote continuous improvement
  • Participates as a member of HACCP Team
  • Serves as an internal auditor for GMP auditing and upkeep of BRC certification
  • Supports Quality Manager in all customer and regulatory audits
  • Actively participates in Continuous Improvement Teams
  • Coordinate contact with external laboratories as needed
  • Maintain and undertake the environmental swabbing program
  • Other duties as assigned
