About The Position

The Quality Engineer, Subject Matter Expert (Part-Time) will support the NASA Safety & Mission Assurance (SMA) Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Alabama. This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information. All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check and some positions require clearance and will require an extensive background verification/check process. All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings. Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time). Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering or a related field.
  • In lieu of degree: Candidates with 24+ years of recent and related work experience will be considered.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.
  • All of Bastion's employees must be team players with strong work ethics and must be culture oriented.
  • Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) processes and procedures is highly desired.
  • Skilled in working with both contractors and NASA senior level engineering and Program/Project Managers in a professional manner and able to communicate complex safety and engineering issues in an understandable and diplomatic manner.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Space Launch System (SLS) program by leveraging extensive quality engineering expertise and NASA experience to ensure safety, mission assurance, and program success.
  • Serve as a Quality Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting the SLS Safety and Mission Assurance (SMA) Chief Safety Office.
  • Apply historical knowledge of Launch Vehicle GMIPs, assessments, and MRB Authority processes to enhance program objectives and operational excellence.
  • Perform quality engineering activities in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) program at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.
