About The Position

Quality Engineer 1 is responsible for developing gage designs and inspection plans for new or existing products. This individual evaluates products and manufacturing processes for continuous improvement and supports quality control activities through training, disposition of rejected product, inspection procedure preparation, and other technical support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Biomedical, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
  • 0-3 years of experience of experience in a quality or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and operational procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information, orally and written, and respond to questions to a range of audiences from operators, customers, management, and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and algebra.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, reliability, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions through root cause or gap analyses.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Quality Engineer may spend approximately 1/3 of this time walking or standing.
  • Quality Engineer may spend up to 60% of his time at a computer keyboard.
  • Quality Engineer must be able to measure parts using hand instruments and to speak and hear well enough to communicate effectively.
  • Due to visual inspection of product, vision must be excellent or corrected.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates & leads meetings to review processes, perform gap analyses, and execute new technologies. Interfaces with suppliers and other engineers to ensure quality considerations throughout the process.
  • Develops various inspection techniques and procedures to ensure product integrity to design specifications. Responsible for the writing, approval and implementation of Receiving, Floor and Final Inspection procedures and operator self-inspection procedures.
  • Works with other Quality Engineers and the Metrology Lab personnel on the development and procurement of product gauging, optical comparator overlays, and templates.
  • Participates as a trainer in Quality Control and Manufacturing employee training programs.
  • Works with suppliers, quality control supervisors, engineers and manufacturing personnel in the resolution of quality problems. Also, assists each of these groups with capability studies and the application of statistical quality control.
  • Interfaces with Manufacturing Engineers to review processes for new products and coordinate process validations and capability studies. Works with Production Introduction Team to recommend process monitoring devices where applicable.
