About The Position

The Quality Control Supervisor will be responsible for the primary SQF practitioner role, including audit preparation and performance. This position manages the QC lab, including training, coaching, and scheduling of lab employees. The role involves maintaining organization of regulatory, customer, and third-party inspections, as well as laboratory supplies, ingredients, and documents. Key responsibilities include reviewing and signing off on daily production records and QC documentation, approving updates to procedures and batch sheets, and assisting R&D with ingredient documentation for claims. The supervisor will communicate directives on sanitation, GMPs, food safety, and quality control to production employees, conduct QA checks throughout the warehouse and processing areas, and provide supervision of sanitation procedures. Additionally, the role involves generating technical reports and performing routine and non-routine laboratory testing to support production activities, and assisting in the completion and implementation of finished product specifications. The position also plays a major role in writing and implementing food safety, security, HACCP, environmental, and quality programs and policies, ensuring compliance with group systems and guidelines, and maintaining knowledge of food safety, HACCP, industry issues, and regulations including FSMA. Active participation in FSQA/compliance-based professional groups is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5-10+ years of experience in quality, food safety & environmental systems and management.
  • SQF Practitioner certification.
  • PCQI Certified.
  • Experience as a Lead and internal auditor for food safety, HACCP.
  • Experience with training.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with all levels within the organization and with suppliers.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Primary SQF practitioner responsible for audit prep and performance.

  • Review/sign-off on daily production records and QC documentation.
  • Review and approve updates, modifications, or changes in procedures to batch sheets.
  • Assist R&D with ingredient documentation for claims purposes (organic, gluten free, etc.).
  • Communicate directives and provide instruction to production employees in sanitation, GMPs, food safety, and quality control.
  • Conduct QA checks throughout the warehouse and processing areas for compliance to SOPs and GMPS.
  • Provide supervision of sanitation procedures and methods.
  • Generate technical reports in support of production and other departments.
  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing to support production activities.
  • Assist in the completion and implementation of finished product specifications.
  • Major role in writing and implementing food safety, security, HACCP, environmental, and quality programs and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all group systems, guidelines, and policies of private label and co-packers.
  • Maintain knowledge of food safety, HACCP, current industry issues, and innovative technology regarding food and packaging products.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing food products, including FSMA.
  • Actively participate in FSQA/compliance-based professional groups and associations.
