About The Position

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to help lead our Quality Control teams based out of our San Carlos facility. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Quality Control, you will assist in planning, coordinating, and directing all aspects of quality control for the site. The Quality Control Manager will lead a team to ensure the smooth execution of quality processes and inspections, assuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of aircraft systems and components. This leader is responsible for guiding and developing an organization of inspection supervisors and leading a team of inspectors across assigned areas of the San Carlos manufacturing system. The role will own quality training systems,continuous improvement of inspection processes, and strict compliance with internal standards and FAA Regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality management and quality control within a manufacturing environment. This role requires close collaboration with Quality Engineering, production teams, and internal stakeholders. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, aviation management, or a related field plus a minimum of 10 years' experience in Quality Engineering or a related technical field. In lieu of college degree, a minium of 12 years experience in a quality engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum 6 years of leadership experience in a Quality Management, QC Leadership, or Quality Program Management role supporting a manufacturing environment.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing controls, design controls, APQP, and complex nonconformance management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to maintain technical standards and collaborate under production timelines.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical systems and inspection processes, including in-process inspection and precision dimensional inspection.
  • Fundamental understanding of core quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, and tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong technical writing capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aviation or commercial aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements (e.g., 14 CFR Part 21).
  • Understanding of ISO9001, AS9100, or equivalent Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of the AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) process.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Lean Manufacturing certification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a designated Quality Control team in San Carlos to manage all aspects of inspection while ensuring compliance with internal and FAA regulations.
  • Participate in the coordination and support of Material Review Board (MRB) activities and dispositions.
  • Engage cross-functionally with program management and manufacturing leadership to understand and execute production priorities.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering to ensure all technical requirements, inspection plans, and quality processes are clearly communicated to and executed by the quality control team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration with manufacturing to optimize processes, enhance efficiency, and accelerate inspection throughput without compromising quality standards.
  • Advise engineering teams on design and change review activities, specifically evaluating product inspectability, consistency, adequacy, and conformance to requirements.
  • Manage operational data and metrics using visualization tools to track and report inspection performance, throughput, and quality levels.
  • Participate in product quality and Quality Management System (QMS) reviews to assure compliance with drawings, work instructions, internal standards (ISO9001/AS9100), and regulatory requirements.
  • Support product and process failure investigations, ensuring effective root-cause analysis and the implementation of robust corrective and preventive actions on the floor.
  • Assist with continuous improvement activities to enhance Joby's quality control systems and methodologies.
  • Support the strategic planning and execution of long-term sustainable goals and objectives as determined by the Senior Manager of Quality Control.
