About The Position

Atlas Shingles & Underlayments, a division of Atlas Roofing Corporation, is a privately owned company established in 1982. It is an international and multi-divisional manufacturer of roofing, sheathing, facer, and insulation product solutions. Atlas Shingles & Underlayments is seeking a Quality Control Lab Technician for the Hampton, Georgia facility. This role involves ensuring products meet quality specifications through inspection and testing.

Requirements

  • Excel, Word, People Soft, Bizware and other programs exclusive to Quality Assurance.
  • Mathematical skills with an emphasis on statistical processes.
  • Communication skills to effectively converse with Production.
  • Knowledge of the Manufacturing process.
  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Must be able to pass basic skills assessment in Microsoft Excel.
  • 5 to 7 years experience in the manufacturing facility or one similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or an associate's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inspection and testing of all finished products and raw materials to ensure they meet Atlas and UL Specifications as required.
  • Communicate any out-of-specification testing to Manager and Production Supervisor.
  • Perform line audits to assess finished quality and in-process quality including temperatures, speed, pressures, etc.
  • Assist in the training of production employees, including QC/Lead & Relief, in performing duties related to quality control.
  • Input data into the computer regarding specification requirements.
  • Rotate with other Lab Technicians to ensure coverage during roofing production hours.
  • Input data into Bizware, Google Sheets, Excel, and Peoplesoft daily and verify data accuracy at the end of the month for the QC monthly report.
  • Assist in Competitive & Sister Audits, when time allows.
  • Communicate with Supervision and production employees regarding quality issues during the production process.
  • Contain and tag any suspect material and communicate to QC Manager and Roofing Line Superintendent details of defect and quantity on hold.
  • Perform warehouse audits to assess finished goods quality.
  • Maintain lab equipment, scales, and equipment on the manufacturing floor required for quality testing.
  • Responsible for cleaning testing materials, beakers, SP apparatus, etc., and keeping the lab in good working order and tidy.
  • Maintain all color standards at Slate and ensures operator paperwork is available for startup and color change.
  • Maintains drop cups as needed for standard verification.
  • Maintain Color display board for all products, ensuring standards are available and in good physical shape for color verification at start up, shift change, and color change.
  • Perform testing for all Scotchgard Products.
  • Prepare samples for shipment to MDI and ensures data meets requirements during production run.
  • Set up wastewater sampling and prepare samples for shipment once per month (day shift).
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new products.
  • Participate in project teams to improve quality, process, or performance on roofing products.
  • Assist Supervisor on shift with troubleshooting quality or process-related issues.
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding quality and/or production issues to other lab employees and manager.
  • Supervise production employees in the absence of a Production Supervisor.
  • Transport injured employees to the emergency room if required.
