About The Position

Responsible for performing the necessary testing of raw materials, water, sweetener, and the finished product to ensure a high level of quality. This role involves performing quality assurance tests, recording data, and making adjustments as needed. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining inventory of testing supplies and chemicals, performing equipment backwashing and sanitation, and ensuring the lab area is clean and organized. Continuous monitoring of product quality and attending training to stay updated on industry standards are also key aspects of the position. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • One (1) year general work experience required working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries.
  • Must be able to write clearly and record very precise data.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Use of calculator in determining percentages.
  • Good understanding of basic algebraic calculations is necessary in calculating acidity of citrus based products.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions supplied both written and verbal.
  • Must be very alert due to fast-paced environment and critical measurements being monitored.
  • Good computer skills for recording and tracking inventory, results of testing, reporting, and calculating batches.
  • Follow-up and attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills required.
  • High mechanical aptitude and ability to use small hand tools necessary to modify, repair and perform setup/changeover of the product line in a timely manner.
  • Good hand/finger coordination that allows fine adjustments to be made quickly to avoid quality issues or line shutdowns.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality assurance tests and record data and any adjustments for such testing.
  • Conduct water treatment tests including chlorine level, turbidity, and alkalinity, and mix treatment chemicals.
  • Perform microbiological testing on samples weekly or as needed and maintain records.
  • Inspect incoming sweetener, oversee unloading, perform microbial testing, and calculate specific gravity (brix).
  • Test and record finished syrup parameters such as ph, TOA, brix, and assay.
  • Test and record finished product data including carbonation, brix, TOA, assay, and ph, and make machine adjustments based on results.
  • Ensure proper closure application testing and record keeping for packaging, verify package code legibility, and check package temperature at dew point.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory levels of testing supplies and water treatment chemicals.
  • Perform water treatment backwashing and sanitation of equipment like flo-mix, carbo-cooler, and filter.
  • Keep the work area in the lab and the water treatment room clean and organized.
  • Continuously monitor product quality.
  • Attend training and seminars to stay abreast on quality standards of the industry.
  • Other duties may be assigned or requested.
