About The Position

The Quality Assurance Tester will report to the Supervisor of Fare Collection for the PATH Revenue Operations Unit and will support critical Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems, including the new PATH Contactless Payment System (PCPS). This position will be responsible for issue resolution, project implementation tasks, troubleshooting device and equipment failures, and completing associated administrative and reporting activities in a timely and efficient manner. The role requires active participation in the field and throughout multiple PATH facilities, including public PATH train stations and the first-floor Customer Contact Center, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or four years of equivalent work experience in Information Technology support.
  • At least one year of experience working with computer technology.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to both technical and nontechnical staff and customers.
  • Demonstrated mathematical ability with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to oversee the resolution of technical and compliance issues and quickly develop and implement alternative courses of action.
  • Strong understanding of computer and networking hardware and software systems.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret reports to determine the service needs of vending machines, validators, and other devices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, or related software. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas and pivot tables, is required.
  • Proficiency with, or the ability to quickly learn, a broad range of networking and systems hardware and software.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, including early morning, second/swing shift, midnight, and weekend schedules.
  • Must be available to work holidays and overtime as needed, including immediately following the regular workday or on scheduled days off.

Responsibilities

  • Execute test cases under varying circumstances and document and evaluate test results.
  • Detect program bugs and glitches and assist with troubleshooting errors.
  • Create logs to document testing phases, track defects, and record troubleshooting procedures.
  • Produce customized and ad hoc reports for the Project Team.
  • Review test procedures and develop test scripts.
  • Review and analyze system specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, Mechanical Maintenance staff, and other PATH employees to develop effective testing strategies and test plans.
  • Evaluate hardware and software functions according to specifications.
  • Conduct post-release and post-implementation testing.
  • Set up email distribution of ad hoc reports at established intervals, including daily, weekly, and monthly schedules, and maintain distribution lists.
  • Coordinate service with software and hardware vendors to repair or replace defective products.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
