About The Position

Mark Anthony Brewing Canada Ltd. is hiring a Quality Assurance Technician to join our team on a one-year contract to cover a maternity leave. The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining all aspects of the quality assurance program within the facility, including microbiology testing, analytical chemistry testing, and packaged product testing. This role plays a key part in ensuring the quality, consistency, integrity, and food safety of the products produced in our facility.

Requirements

  • Laboratory experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work and communicate with all levels of brewery personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to work in sometimes ambiguous, entrepreneurial, and unstructured environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a QC/QA role in a brewing or beverage production facility is preferred.
  • Understanding of brewing and fermentation processes is an asset.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation used in beverage analysis.
  • Sensory training and experience with off-flavour detection is an asset.
  • Degree in food science, chemistry, microbiology, engineering, brewing, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required testing for incoming raw materials, in-process products, and packaged products.
  • Test in-process and finished products to ensure they meet chemical and physical specifications, including alcohol content, pH, total acidity, bitterness, colour, sorbic acid, VDK, and other parameters.
  • Test products during packaging to ensure they meet packaging specifications, including CO2, DO/TPO, pasteurization, can seams, and overall packaging integrity.
  • Perform microbiological testing of in-process and finished products, including aseptic sample collection, traditional microbiology methods, and PCR testing.
  • Conduct sensory evaluation of in-process and finished products, including daily taste panels, flavour profile assessment, and detection of products that do not meet CCBD standards.
  • Maintain open communication with brewing, batching, packaging, and maintenance teams to ensure only products meeting quality standards are produced.
  • Maintain all Quality Labs in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Participate in ongoing product and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support production, quality, and safety goals as a team player.
  • Perform project work as needed.
  • Participate in CCBD’s Food Safety Program to ensure product integrity and food safety.
