The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for performing a variety of routine laboratory operations in a quality assurance setting. Duties usually consist of making measurements, performing several routine quantitative and qualitative biological or chemical analytical tests according to standard procedures. This role monitors the production process and product by sensory, weight control, and analytical methods to maintain product consistency and comply with established specifications. The technician evaluates finished product in regards to moisture, ingredient content, breakage, color, package fill, raw and finished weights, seal integrity, code date legibility, and overall product quality. They will also inspect and test incoming raw materials, in-process products, finished goods, and products produced by outside suppliers. The role requires strict adherence to safety procedures when handling chemicals and following instructions for safe lifting. The QA Technician executes the Food Safety Plan and Food Quality Plan at the frontline level and monitors their effectiveness and conformance with SQF system requirements. They identify, investigate, and determine whether out-of-compliance finished product should be placed on hold and coordinate disposition and/or rework with leadership approval. Additionally, they monitor raw materials storage area locations, complete shift tailings, and notify appropriate personnel of any abnormal findings. The role also involves monitoring metal detection validation & verification, auditing allergen maintenance repair sheets and operator forms, and conducting pre-op inspections of processing, packaging, and mixing equipment. Plant sanitation verifications are performed to ensure allergen-free conditions and equipment cleanliness. Mandatory overtime is required.
