About The Position

The Quality Assurance Composite Assembly Inspector will be responsible for performing various inspections on composite materials and assemblies throughout the manufacturing process. This role requires a keen eye for detail, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The inspector will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of products, participating in root cause analysis, and guiding assembly technicians. This position is permanent and falls under the Quality Inspection job family at Airbus Helicopters Canada Ltd.

Requirements

  • College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technician or Technologist, or relevant experience.
  • 5 years of composite experience in Manufacturing/Assembly Inspection.
  • Experience with a Quality Assurance System (ISO 9001, AS 9100).
  • Ability to work under broad supervision.
  • Independent and able to work with a team.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to manage time effectively and prioritize work.
  • Professional working relationships with internal and external sources, including regulatory and quality certified agencies.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet demanding work schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections of assemblies and painted parts, verifying potting material shelf life and ensuring components are installed as per drawing.
  • Conduct visual inspections for improper or insufficient coverage, rough surfaces, pitting, dust inclusions, orange peel, tears, sagging, or blistering.
  • Inspect parts against planned MIDs (Material Identification Documents) and Inspection documents, including drawings.
  • Record nonconformities and quarantine non-conforming parts with red tags.
  • Create and maintain inspection plans and procedures.
  • Participate in and lead root cause and corrective action processes using methodologies like Rapid 5 Whys and 8D tools.
  • Perform First Article Inspections to AS9102 requirements.
  • Execute inspections to meet planned weekly and daily KPIs for Assembly Inspection Plans.
  • Serve as a guide to Assembly technicians by sharing requirements and acceptance criteria for inspection.
  • Participate in all initial and recurrent training to maintain certifying staff authorities.
  • Conduct trim inspections, verifying tool validity and inspecting parts against planned MIDs, Inspection documents, and drawings.
  • Perform shipping inspections to verify that all inspection stages have been completed and inspect parts against planned MIDs, Inspection documents, and drawings.
  • Prepare shipping documentation, including Form Ones and Certificates of Conformance (C of Cs).
  • Review all materials in kits for shelf life and out-life remaining during lay-up inspection.
  • Verify that all materials have been cut and identified with ply number and orientation.
  • Verify the completeness of Material Identification Sheets and the validity of tooling.
  • Conduct visual inspections for lay-up parts against planned MIDs, Inspection documents, and drawings.
  • Serve as a guide to Layup technicians by sharing requirements and acceptance criteria for inspection.
  • Verify tooling validity for core inspection.
  • Verify conformity to templates and drawings for core inspection.
  • Perform visual inspections for damage, cell ruptures, contamination (dust/oil) for core inspection.
  • Inspect core parts to planned MIDs and Inspection documents, drawings etc.
