About The Position

The QFS Manager oversees the daily quality control and analysis of inbound and outbound products and ingredients at the Mankato facility, while managing the site’s food safety program. This position is responsible for ensuring quality standards are met for the entire Crush and Refinery locations, which operate 24/7 -365 days. Human Food and Animal Feed products. The QFS Manager leads the Quality Assurance (QA) and supports Quality Control (QC) team and reports directly to the Complex Manager, maintaining close communication with the Oilseeds Quality Group Business Unit.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree is preferred, or a combination of 10+ years of Quality and Food Safety experience in a food manufacturing and laboratory environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior management, customers, and regulatory authorities.

Nice To Haves

  • HACCP certification is good to have or must be acquired within the first 3 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to ensure all food safety and quality requirements are met across the facility.
  • Plan, implement, and continuously improve divisional food safety and quality programs for Housekeeping, GMP, Osha logs.
  • Monitor and enforce quality goals, KPIs, and food safety standards, maintaining an effective Food Safety Plan and supporting continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to industry certifications such as GMP+, SQF, USDA and FDA compliance (21 CFR 507/117).
  • Oversee the use of information technology systems like Policy Tech, APeCS, and GEMINI to support QFS programs.
  • Track and report on the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), driving continuous improvement across the plant.
  • Lead cultural evolution for the operations team, Lead the Food Safety/Quality team, including QA and QC coordinators and QC manager.
  • Manage calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, e-QMS, Ideal state, plant transformation.
  • Address quality and food safety issues, communicating with Plant Management, Regional QFS, BU NA QFS Director, and the Technology Center as necessary.
  • Lead the WPO pillar for the facility’s PE program and engage in steering team activities.
  • Attend Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 meetings, actively participating as a key stakeholder.
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and yearly QFS reports to stakeholders.
  • Champion global Food Safety & Quality awareness initiatives, including Quality Food Safety Awareness Week.
  • Create systems to maintain QFS efforts and keep the team motivated and engaged.
  • Actively engage as a key stakeholder in plant transformation initiatives.
  • Key stake holder in plant leadership overall cultural evolvement.
