Qualified Elevator Inspector
About The Position

JMT is seeking a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) for Construction Management and Inspection Services in the Pittsburgh, PA region. This role will involve projects in public housing, education, airports, and transportation, focusing on the inspection of elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways, and other lift machinery. The inspector will ensure that all work complies with applicable codes, drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
Requirements
- Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification.
- Experience in inspection of elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways, and/or other lift machinery.
- Experience verifying that operation, construction, retrofit, or repair work in the field is performed in accordance with applicable code requirements, drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Ability to prepare written contract administration documentation.
- Ability to perform trade-specific code and/or Quality Control inspections.
- Ability to detect defects and recommend remedial measures.
- Ability to prepare estimates of extra work.
- Ability to review plans for constructability.
- Ability to review contractor payment requests.
- Ability to oversee and participate in testing, commissioning, and startup of mechanical systems.
- Ability to ensure proper functionality of various mechanical systems.
- Ability to identify discrepancies or defects and coordinate corrective actions.

Responsibilities
- Read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Prepare written contract administration documentation, including daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, and daily time and material records.
- Document unit price work and verify that mechanical work aligns with approved drawings and design documents.
- Perform trade-specific code and/or Quality Control inspections on various phases/aspects of elevator/lift equipment.
- Detect possible defects and faults in equipment installations, maintenance, or operation and recommend or stipulate appropriate remedial measures per jurisdictional requirements.
- Keep the Resident Engineer/PM advised of potential issues.
- Prepare estimates of extra work and related sketches and documentation.
- Review plans for constructability and prepare comments.
- Review contractor payment requests and provide comments to the Resident Engineer/PM.
- Oversee and participate in the testing, commissioning, and startup of mechanical systems.
- Ensure proper functionality of pumps, compressors, piping, ventilation, fire suppression, and fuel distribution systems.
- Identify any discrepancies or defects and coordinate necessary corrective actions.
