About The Position

The Community Educator and Outreach Specialist will have working knowledge of mental health, onset of mental illness, barriers to behavioral health treatment, and crises experienced by youth and adults. Additionally, this position will exhibit knowledge of behavioral issues impacting children, adolescents, and emerging adults and the possible outcomes that emerge from these issues for families, care givers, educators, and systems. The Community Educator and Outreach Specialist will serve as a liaison between LifePath Systems Behavioral Health Division and agencies within Collin County. This position will seek to increase the community’s knowledge of LifePath Systems and services provided within the behavioral health division. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with community members and agencies and will develop and maintain a list of contacts and make regular outreach attempts with the goal of educating and scheduling meetings and/or trainings. The Community Educator and Outreach Specialist will work in conjunction with the MHFA Coordinator/Outreach Supervisor to provide education and information on available trainings to the community on adult and youth MHFA. It is the responsibility of this position to create presentations and handouts for psychoeducational trainings and outreach pertaining to LifePath Systems Behavioral Health Division. The Community Educator and Outreach Specialist will be certified to provide youth, adult, and teen MHFA, and when applicable, provide youth, adult, and teen trainings to the community and educational system. This position will work closely with the MHFA Coordinator/Outreach Supervisor and Behavioral Health Management Team to fulfill duties and contract requirements. Additionally, this position will assist awareness of other specialty programs including the Overdose Response Team, Center for Healing, and grant-related programs to the community and stakeholders.

Requirements

• Must have a bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field from a four-year college or university.
• Must have at least 1 year of related work experience in the behavioral health field.
• Ability to acquire and maintain certification including additional modules in MHFA curriculum (Adult/Youth/Teen).
• Knowledge of childhood development and mental health diagnoses affecting individuals.
• Knowledge of mental health and emotional components.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care including cultural sensitivity and person-centered principles in all areas of service delivery and the ability to implement trauma-informed practices within scope of work.
• Knowledge of the social services and educational systems.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, communities served, and the educational system using tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
• Ability to communicate efficiently, write clearly and professionally, and read and interpret documents and data.
• Ability to think clearly and logically to effectively handle potentially aggressive behaviors and emotional disturbances in a positive manner.
• Ability and skills to utilize logic and reason to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a comprehensive treatment team.
• Ability to proficiently utilize the computer including Microsoft Office to effectively and efficiently complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in counseling, sociology, human growth and development, psychology, or nursing and licensure in the behavioral health field (LPC, LCSW, LMFT) preferred.
• Experience in behavioral health community outreach or education preferred.
• Experience in marketing or customer service in the medical or behavioral health field preferred.
• Experience in public speaking and presentations preferred.
• Certified Youth and Adult MHFA Instructor preferred.
