QC Roadway Technician

About The Position

The QC Roadway Technician performs asphalt density and roller pattern testing on plant-produced mix in accordance with NCDOT specifications. The technician is responsible for accurate testing, preparing and maintaining test equipment, and reporting results accurately and on time. The role includes operating and maintaining density gauge equipment, maintaining records, completing paperwork, and supporting safe work practices. Long hours may be associated with this position.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in an asphalt lab.
Ability to follow and communicate precise instructions.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and NCDOT GAP.
Valid driver's license.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
Ability to operate and maintain density gauge equipment.
Self-starter and motivated individual with good communication skills.
Reliable and trustworthy team player.
Good attendance and safety record.
Willingness to work long hours associated with the position.
Ability to complete required paperwork and good math skills.
Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
Ability to stand and walk occasionally.

Nice To Haves

NCDOT Certification; not required, and training may be provided to the right person.
Nuclear Training Certification; not required.

Responsibilities

Perform asphalt density tests and roller pattern tests on plant-produced mix in accordance with NCDOT specifications.
Perform nuclear or conventional density tests on roadway asphalt material.
Prepare and maintain testing equipment, including density gauges.
Maintain accurate records and reports, and report test results in a timely manner.
Complete required paperwork, which may require using a computer.
Maintain a good driving and safety record and support good attendance and safety practices.
Communicate precise instructions and be able to lead others in maintaining attendance and safety standards.
