About The Position

This role is responsible for sampling, testing, plating, reading, and recording product test results. The technician will ensure daily records are maintained, handle data entry and tracking, and follow QC Hold Procedures for out-of-specification products. A key aspect of this role involves adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), assisting in maintaining a 5-S rating of 'A', and demonstrating flexibility in working hours. The position also includes equipment calibration and troubleshooting, performing other assigned duties, and participating in driving continuous improvement. Regular meetings with a supervisor are required to discuss any production-related issues. The technician must possess knowledge and understanding of industry best practices for equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (Food Science, Biology, Microbiology or related science) or equivalent experience (Minimum 2 years in similar role).
  • Knowledge of Microbiological, Chemical and Physical, Organoleptic Testing.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good oral/written communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task in fast paced environment with limited supervision.
  • Proficient in window based PC programs.
  • Lab Test Equipment/Maintenance.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Time Management.
  • Quick to learn new techniques.
  • Ability to work in cold and loud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Sampling, testing, plating, reading, and recording product test results.
  • Ensuring daily records are kept and maintained.
  • Data Entry and tracking.
  • Following QC Hold Procedures for out of specification products.
  • Following standard operating procedures (SOP's).
  • Assisting in the discipline to maintain a 5-S rating of an "A".
  • Being flexible in working hours.
  • Equipment calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Participating in driving continuous improvement.
  • Meeting with supervisor on a daily basis covering on any issues associated with production.
  • Possessing the knowledge and understanding of Industry best practice maintenance on equipment.
  • Ensuring Safeway policies, procedures, and workplace safety is adhered to.
  • Evaluating trends from test results and developing plans to correct deficiencies and communicating these plans to employees, and management.
  • Implementing quality control processes/testing to meet the expectations of Safeway quality standards and ensuring that the product(s) are within specification.
  • Utilizing laboratory supplies/items relating to plant sanitation/safety.
